For this week’s blog I have interviewed a female entrepreneur ánd a male entrepreneur to see to what extend they differ in their networking practices. The results and outcomes vere quite interesting, although no real conclusions can be made through two ‘respondents’ of course.
The female entrepreneur is a beauty care consultant (26 years old) and the male entrepreneur owns a webshop in food supplements and nutritions (33 years old). Both of them have found their passion in their job, and both of them acknowledge they are dependant of their network. However, the female entrepreneur uses her network to acquire knowledge, information and more recources in a less interactive way than the male entrepreneur. Like the female entrepreneur, the male entrepreneur uses his network to acquire knowledge, information and more recources – however, in contrast to the female he acts in an interactive way with his net work and gives them something back as well.
Both of them lift more to getting things than giving things in their network. In this process, the male entrepreneur is more pro-active and engaged than the female entrepreneur. Both of them score low on organised and categorised streams of information consumption through their network.
While the female entrepreneur uses her network to acquire knowledge and information, the male entrepreneur uses his network to find business opportunities through prestigious networks and people. It is perhaps too black and white to state that the male is more ambitious than the female entrepreneur, and that this result is screenable in their networking styles. However, if more research is conducted in this way and results aim the same direction – one might find some interesting points to take under further notice.
Both of the entrepreneurs are not really surprised by the outcome of their interview, since they are very well aware of their networking style. The female entrepreneur does however acknowledge that it might be in her interest to make better use of her network and give them something back in return as well. The male entrepreneur was slightly surprised by the unsystematic consumption of his network, however he doubts the use of this.
